“I have always tried to live an artful life. I believe that art is all around us if we just open our eyes and our minds. I see beauty in the most ordinary things and it is from these images that I get my inspiration.”
Debbie was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1957 and moved to Kingston Ontario in 1965. Being practical she became a registered nurse and started a 30 year career as a Critical Care Nurse. She had a desire to nurture her artistic side which took her to study Fashion Design at St. Lawrence College and then go on to design and manufacture Ready to Wear Lines for a shop she co-owned with several other designers until her husband’s work moved her to Toronto in1986. There while continuing her career as a nurse, she sampled a variety of different media including fabric draping, fabric printing, and watercolour but ended up taking a 15 year break from the arts to work and raise a family.
Residing in Richmond Hill in 2004 she started to take her art more seriously and began drawing and painting classes and now concentrates on acrylic painting. She continues to pursue her love of painting by taking workshops and classes with a variety of different instructors, as well as plein air painting in the countryside north of her home.
Debbie has participated in many juried shows and exhibitions, winning several prizes for her works in both watercolour and acrylic.
