Frankie Ip is a contemporary landscape, abstract and conceptual artist with extensive training in art and design in Asia and North America. Rooted in the orient and moulded by a western art education, Frankie knows both Eastern and Western cultures. Directly and indirectly, these influences have helped him to develop his signature style.

“Painting is like playing music or writing a poem. It is the way I express my concept of beauty, my passion and feeling, as well as my view of the world. I choose painting because I love the vibrant colours; I experiment with the flexibility of form and design, while enjoying the absence of boundaries in the creative process.”

Frankie has travelled extensively in Canada documenting local landscapes and studying the inhabitants’ relationships with their environment. Art is his way of fostering an awareness of the beauty of nature and concern for the environment and encouraging an understanding of the uniqueness of every individual.

His experiences have stimulated Frankie’s expression in multiple aesthetic directions and artistic forms: landscape, abstract and conceptual art but always relying on colour and texture to give voice to his obvious passion for nature and the environment. Frankie extends his usage of oil on canvas to mixed media and diverse surfaces using fused and contrasting colours, integrated with complex textural forms, to transport the viewer to new visual destinies. He joyfully merges realistic form with abstract expression in an autonomist style that gives his work its strength of character and personality.

Frankie's work is held in public institutional and private collections in Canada, the USA and Asia. He is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Ontario College of Art and Design.
