Born in Montreal in 1960 John F. Marok attended John Abbott College and Concordia University with a special emphasis on painting. He has been awarded Grants by the Canada Council and from Quebec’s ministère de la Culture, and has painted and completed research residencies in Europe and Canada. An accomplished painter he has been working and exhibiting for thirty years.

John F. Marok is a solitary thinker who lives and feels the themes he explores in his paintings. To know his work is to encounter the soul of the artist. Of his work John says: “Although I work within the traditional framework of still-life, figure and landscape the more vital subject of my paintings is color, shape and the rhythms I create to give my paintings a unique and dynamic life-force.

When I have completed a painting it feels alternately mysterious and familiar, not unlike meeting a stranger I feel I have met before - a sense of recognition in the midst of the unknown.”

For the past twenty years John has been living and working in Wakefield, Quebec where he maintains his full-time art practice.
